CD ReviewsCombines energy, intelligence, and finesse in funky package. 05/15/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "Two Ton Shoe does have first class musicians in their band, this much is clear to any listener. But what they also have is solid songwriting, clever, intelligent arrangements, interesting lyrics, and originality. Oh did I mention that "Figures..." sounds great, to; from the production/engineering point of view. Songs like "Troopy's Blues" and "Medicine" are funk workouts, while "Shadows" and "Far from Blue" show off Justin Beech's commanding vocals. (Beech is at times reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley.) A note to fans who have not seen them live: The CD doesn't even come close to the energy onstage, which is not to say that the energy on "Figures..." is lacking, it's just that live these guys take it to another level. Especially on the song "Pill", which is their standard show closer, but has yet to make it to an album. Here's hoping its on the next one." Shoe to the Face J B | Boston, MA | 02/19/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "One word......"GROOVE" Boston's finest brewing up a batch of funk and soul. The album is incredible, the concerts are phenomenal. Check these guys out."
