The justification for commercial country-pop is albums like this one. Ty Herndon never transcends the narrow soap-opera concerns of mainstream Nashville, but he has a great honky-tonk voice, full of throaty purrs and hard-... more »bitten personality, and he has a sure ear for catchy melodies. Singing Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around with Jim," Hank Cochran's "Summer Was a Bummer," Vince Gill's "You Just Get One," and seven other numbers, Herndon milks the hooks of all their pleasures and lends the familiar romantic scenarios a real conviction. --Geoffrey Himes« less

"I love this cd. I listened to it in my car and thought, wow this is a good cd, when I got to the office and actually heard the words, I started crying when Hat Full of Rain played. It said exactly how I felt about my dad who recently died in a motorcycle accident. He has a beautiful voice and knows how to put a lot of emotions into his music."
This is a GREAT cd!

"This cd rocks the world. The songs are awesome all of them. Especially "What Mattered Most" and "I Want My Goodbye Back". Ty's duet with Stephanie Bentley "Heart Half Empty" is a great song and makes you think. I bought this cd for the awesome title track. I was pleasanntly surpised to find that evey single song is just as good. It's well worth youre money."

"As far as debut albums go, this CD is possibly one of the strongest to come out in many years! I was raised on country music and was NOT a big fan. In early 1995, while driving my car, at a real low point in my life, I was flipping through the radio stations and just was lucky enough to catch a song by a new country artist named Ty Herndon singing a beautifully touching duet with another new artist, Stephanie Bentley. Although the subject matter wasn't related to the "funk" I was in, the song truly touched me, and for 4 minutes and 55 seconds, I was lost in one of country's greatest voices, singing his heart out. Needless to say, I was a fan instantly and drove straight to the music store and bought my very first country CD-"Ty Herndon's What Mattered Most" CD. From the first play I was hooked. This guy has one of the most underrated, fantasic voices in country today. From the heart-wretching title track, Heart Half Empty to Hat Full Of Rain, this guy grabs your attention. But that's not all, there is a little bit of somethin' for everybody-there's the funloving honky tonk tunes like "Pretty Good Thing", "I Want My Goodbye Back", "In Your Face" and "Love At 90 Miles An Hour" that'll have your boots tappin' along in no time! Also throw in is an excellent remake of Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" that'd put a smile on Croce's face himself! This CD is excellent from beginning to end. No filler here! If you're still not convinced, see Ty in concert and you'll soon be a believer! He is one of country's greatest underrated artists. Thanks to this CD, I found the true wonder of country music, a true American original music! If you don't own this CD, your collection is sadly lacking!"
