"I have written raving good reviews of UB40's most recent albums and Ali Campbell's 2 solo albums, and also noted in some of those reviews that the group's future was very much in doubt with the loss of original lead singer Ali Campbell. However, when the "Best Of Labour Of Love" compilation came out in late 2009, ending with 2 new songs from this soon-to-be-released album, I jumped on it and was very fond of the new tracks, "Bring It On Home To Me" and "Don't Want To See You Cry". I became very interested in the upcoming new UB40 album, their first without Ali Campbell, who to me is what Jim Morrison was to The Doors - an inspired writer and singer with a really cool backing band.
But this is a fine album, highly enjoyable to listen to, and firmly in the UB40 style and tradition, just with a little different sound up front on vocals. The booklet is great, with essays from John Masouri, Flo Galvez, and Doctor X giving many details of the new music. Along with the previously mentioned tunes, there are many tracks that sound like hits - Get Along Without You Now (the 2nd single after Bring It On Home To Me), Boom Shacka Lacka, Baby Why, A Love I Can Feel, You're Gonna Need Me, Tracks Of My Tears - well, just about every song is a keeper.
So I'm still a fan, they're still the greatest, and I can also have my Ali Campbell solo. UB40 seems to have lost their international popularity (4 of their last 5 albums have not even been released in the USA), but they still should be all over the radio everywhere. Long Live UB40 !"
