"Stunningly recorded by John Jordan and John Voci before a live audience (one cough is audible during a pause in the music) this is improvised music of the highest caliber by two master musicians. Marginal compositions, SOUND STORIES, MELLOW T, and VARIATIONS ON A THEME BY CHARLES MINGUS lead into improvisations moving where the music might take them. The highest compliment one can pay to a fellow musician, I imagine, is " he (or she) has ears, man!". Both these musicians have BIG ears so complementary are they in their musical explorations, and dialogue, as they range across the limits of their imagination and skill, no holds barred. The music is given incredible variety by Mr Ehrlich's soprano sax, alto sax, bass clarinet and flute and comparisons with the master Mr Sam Rivers is not inappropriate, he is that good. Apart from the inventivess and melodic and harmonic beauty they create, the sheer sound of their instruments is quite beautiful. A credit to the engineers."
