CD ReviewsA Mixed Bag of Mostly Good Pop-Punk Songs Cory T. Shaeffer | Pittsburgh | 11/19/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "Useless I.D. has come a long way from their debut album, and this latest effort, which comes almost four years after their previous album, Redemption, is a natural progression in terms of their style.
Despite the emo leanings of the first two tracks ("Isolate Me" and "Killing a Ghost"), this is a pop-punk or a pop-rock record. The songs are very melodic and catchy. "Give it Up" and "Mouse in a Maze" are the uptempo high points of the set. The difference on this album is that, unlike their previous works, there are no BAD songs. With less filler and more focus, these guys have refined their skills as songwriters, and as a band they sound tighter than ever. If you are a fan of the Ataris, Sugarcult, or Allister's "Blackout" album, you will love this one. It is good pop-punk with the occasional edgy, dark twist - and the lyrics have some substance to them as well - making the entire effort a winner. 4.5 stars." |
