"Ustad Hussain Sayeeduddin Dagar is probably the finest Dhrupad singer alive today. His style is contemplative and serene. This recording contains an extended Alap in Raag Des followed by the bandish, "Savare rang daar diyo". Des has been a favorite raag of mine for years, but listening this recording opened a whole new aspect of it. Ustadji's rendition is so mellow and ethereal that one feels transported. It is at once spiritual and sensuous, and brings to mind the originator of this style of Dhrupad Khayal singing - Mian Tansen himself - from whom the Dagars trace their family lineage. I whole heartedly recommend this recording to everyone - if you love and appreciate Indian classical singing, you will find new pleasures in it, and if your interest is more superficial or new, the easy accessibility of it will definitely encourage you to explore further."
