Refreshing and poetic

"One tends to discard contemporary composers who are, for one reason or another, not standing in the limelight. Dominick Argento, born in York, Pennsylvania, in 1927 is a prominent opera composer in the United States, but he is not very well known in Europe. The Valentino Dances are somewhat reminiscent to De Falla, spiced up with a bit Stravinksy. Surprising is the use of the accordion in this impressive piece of music. For a full appreciation of his music, listen to A Ring of Time, a four-piece suite, which to my humble opinion is a masterpiece. The sound quality of this Reference Recording is stunning as usual, although the human voice tends to be a bit remote and hollow. The full dynamics of the orchestra are best heard on excellent Hi-fi equipment."
