Synopsis

Album Description
When a new building, the "Artisten," was erected for the School of Music at Gothenburg, Sweden in 1988, three organs were commissioned, the principal one being a nineteenth-century-style French symphonic organ of forty-three registers in the style of the great organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. The result, built by the Dutch Verschueren firm, is one of the finest instruments in its class in the world. All the works on this album were written for exactly this type of instrument, and are performed by Holland's greatest living organist, Jacques van Oortmerssen, a former student of the legendary Marie-Claire Alain and successor to Gustav Leonhardt at the Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam.
