"No, this is NOT another "Desire of My Heart," but I hope she does something like that again soon. Think of this as her new millenium version of "Something on the Inside," and you've got the spirit of this CD. The title track has a good groove and is repetitive in the current vein. "Do What He Said" is classic, churchy, squalling Vanessa. The rest of the album is good material that will grow on you after a few listens, which means you'll appreciate this album for a while. Minister Deitrick Haddon's production is good (but not great in some spots), and Nessa's voice is in fine form throughout. It's almost impossible to realize that she is nearly 50 -- she sounds as though she's in her 20's on many of these cuts! Amazingly versatile. It's ironic that the title of this album is "Brand New Day;" and the company that issued this album (Tommy Boy Gospel) folded recently. Hopefully, another label will pick up Vanessa and showcase her talent the way that Verity did with the live album. In the meantime, "Brand New Day" will water your soul, with the unique talents of the incomparably gifted Vanessa Bell Armstrong."
