The liner notes are a wonderful read, the previously unseen photos are fun and the packaging is beautiful. However, the main feature is the music and how it sounds. I had originally figured that most of the first 2 CD's would be no big deal to a long-time Fudge fan. I was wrong. The remastering job on the old album tracks and singles is amazing. The sound is so crisp and clear now that it's like a revelation. Then, after you enjoy that stuff, there's the whole New Year's Eve concert from Fillmore West in 1968 which is a knockout. There are a few places where it gets a little sloppy (as you might expect from a New Year's Eve show in SF), but the band's power & skill are on display in spades. I'd love to have been there but now, it's like I was. The additional unreleased studio jam tracks are interesting and enjoyable but the Fillmore show and remastered stuff are the real attractions. A great release from Rhino Handmade!"
