Album Description2007 compilation from Butterfly Records, the acoustic/Folk label started by artist/producer Youth (Killing Joke) and Simon Tong (The Verve, Gorillaz, The Good The Bad & The Queen). Youth and Tong both shared a common interest in Folk/acoustic music ranging from the old troubadour traditions through to the 60's folk revivals and on to more contemporary movements. Folk music at its very root is essentially a way of stripping away the unnecessary layers of gloss and letting the music and artist bare themselves fresh from the source with minimal dressings and embellishments. From bed sits of Brixton to Weslian chapels of rural Yorkshire, transcendental meditation communities of Lancashire to the university campuses of Exeter. The What The Folk? compilation presents a "musical road trip" of the burgeoning contemporary English folk art movement in the 21st century. 15 tracks including cuts from Indigo Moss, Lisa Knapp, Jai James, The Circus Of Dr. Lao, Music For Dogs, The Spheres and more.
