Synopsis

Amazon.com
Marley Shelton (Pleasantville), James Marsden (X-Men), and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) star in this tale of five high school cheerleaders who plot a bank heist. Essentially, these tracks feature the old-school power-pop trick of mixing sugar-toothed harmonies with crusty rhythm guitars. Los Angeles-based songwriter Cindy Alexander performs a straight-ahead cover of Tom Petty's 1976 anthem, "American Girl." Southern California's Lefty amp it up with the to-the-point "Girls" and Portland, Oregon's Dragonflies supply guitar-power for the previously unreleased "Critical Nature." Australia's teenaged punks Noogie have mastered the art of catchy songwriting with "I'd Rather Float." Republica stick closer to rock, letting England's Juno Reactor fly the electronica flag with the Ennio Morricone-inspired spaghetti western-punk tribute "Pistolero." --Rob O'Connor

"Instead of a sugar high (or "sugar and spice" high) which doesn't last that long...try this energy enema of pop and I swear you'll be dancing down the school halls, office coridoors, or sidewalks of where you call home ready to conquer the world. Rev it up with Cindy Alexander's "American Girl," bound to be the chick anthem of the year - infectious and sassy. The girl's got a powerful, sensual voice (and it's a helluva lot better than Petty's!). Next off it's Lefty's "Girls" - a sing-a-long ditty about how he's sick of estrogen. Love it. Republika's "Ready to Go" is another dose of caffeinated pop - starts off semi-acoustic and then BANG - hard rock my world. Spiderbait's "Shazam" brings me right back to the cheerleading sequences of the movie- a throbbing crowd pleaser. Rounding off the cd is Size 14's "Rob a Bank" - sure, why not? It's all good, it's all fun. Tune after tune this soundtrack will satisfy. Tongue 'n cheek, smart, hooky, a great party collection."
