Amazon.comWhy Do Fools Fall in Love, the movie built on the many wives (well, three) of Frankie Lymon, is an obvious showcase for great period music, and this soundtrack delivers on all fronts. Tracks by Little Richard, the Platters, the Mamas & the Papas, the Kinks, Otis Redding, and, of course, Lymon himself fill this disc with innocent nostalgia, a direct contrast to what (as the movie shows us) was really going on in Lymon's tumultuous life. It's not an adventurous collection of tunes--Lymon's "The ABCs of Love" and Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" are the most interesting contributions, but the collection sets the tone nicely. There's a second soundtrack for Why Do Fools, filled with radio-ready modern pop stars (everyone from Spice Girl Mel B. and Missy Elliott to En Vogue), but this compilation of oldies should serve most of us well. --Jason Verlinde
