Don't be fooled!! This set would probably be OK if you had never heard the original recordings. The fine print on the jacket reads "New stereo recordings". I guess someone has decided to tamper with the success of the original recording, because the "remixs" are not all that good. And some cuts sound like they may have been re-recorded recently by the remaining members of the group.
CD Reviews
Not bad for a remake

"While the purists should avoid this one due to the non-original cuts (but all original artists), it's still a good deal for some sing-along or karioka fun. Pretend you're back in high school at a sock hop - we never seemed to worry then that the local groups didn't sound exactly like the originals. Most tracks are OK and adding some reverb goes a long way."
Good Compilation of Oldies, But...

"You're probably looking at the endless list of 60s hits right now thinking "WOW -- lots of great songs!". They really are. No doubt about that. I guess I was expecting better sound quality recordings (even for oldies) in a boxed set like this, but many of the tracks turned out sounding very monotone-ish. In addition, I think the marketing gurus at Madacy Entertainment Group weren't thinking for the end-user as much as they were for marketing strategies. With the impressive total of 8 CDs, it's a lot of songs, but for me, it's a bit of a hassle having to change CDs after every 12 songs (few tracks compared to what could have been taken to 20 tracks on 5 CDs).So... if you're looking for lots of great songs of yesteryear, don't care much about sound quality, and are lucky enough to have a CD changer, get this. Otherwise, save your money and find another boxed set."
Re Recordings, but Great Sound/Performances, Bargain Price

"Re-recordings of 1960s hits by the original artists. Granted, these are not the original versions, but nearly identical, and they retain all the original arrangements. Furthermore, they were re-recorded in quality stereo sound.Although the original versions will always be the definitive ones, the performances here are what you would most likely hear if you were to see and hear them "live" in the studio. That's the impression I had, listening through my headphones. That's the reason why I purchased the set. And although the running time for each disc is 30-35 minutes, I still considered the price to be quite a bargain. If you insist, however, on the original versions, and nothing else, may I suggest the Time -Life series. You will, unfortunately, have to pay almost double the price."
