Synopsis
Album Description Following on from the massive success of "Al Fresco" and "Espace Prive", Bargrooves Frosted is the third in Bargrooves' quartet of "spaces in special places" CDs and takes its inspiration from West Coast soul, courtesy of guest DJ Vincent Kwok who joins resident mixer Ben Sowton for a quality selection of sexy cuts. On the first CD, Ben has chosen an array of underground flavors and gorgeous grooves. International in scope, Ben's dexterous selection delivers a laidback dose of essential deepness. Skipping across the Atlantic for the second mix, the man from San Fran takes command of the decks for a blend of Latin loops, jubilant vocals, guitar licks and feelgood funk deeply imbued with Californian soul. Standout tracks include the gorgeous Crazy Penis remix of Zorg's "Lady" , the Lance de Sardi re-rub of "Mesopotamian" , Full Intention's stripped down version of the classic "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" and Tony Lindsay's "Love Train" which is exclusive to this album. CD ReviewsHoly Grail of Deep House, but the SONG ORDER IS WRONG C. Stevens | Long Beach, CA | 01/23/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Is it just me, or was there all of a sudden this explosion of bargrooves or bargrooves-esque compilations available? With so many to weed through, it's a rarity to stumble upon something sooooo sweet as this set. I happen to completely disagree with my fellow reviewer, and feel that disc 2 is without a doubt the ALPHA house mix. Disc 1 is fine, it's just that a lot of it has been done before. I feel that Vincent Kwok really pushes the grooves across the globe, spanning several genres and even decades (the 80's funk heavy Joey Negro's 'Begun 2 Luv U' to the more current 'Attend 1'). Buy it, you WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!! In fact, you will thank me time and again for the recommendation.
BUT, when you start listening to it on your IPODs, or MP3s, or whatever, and notice that the song names DON'T match up for disc 2, don't be alarmed. SERIOUSLY, they got it wrong! Tracks 1, 2, 3, and 4 are all right, but then track 5 (even on AMAZON) is NOT "Stranger," but 'Just because,' with is listed as track 12. So from here, you have to do a little shifting. Track 6 is actually "Stranger," and then so on. So when you're on "Touch Me," (which ROCKS, by the way), and are expecting one more song... don't, it's over. ;-) Just thought I would help out others, since I was totally confused for so long about this. Think I should send this to ben and the gang at kinkysweet. Still, don't let this stop you from owning this true gem!!" |
