CD Reviews

Digital Redundance...not a DJ mix
M. A Barrera | Sunnyvale , CA United States | 06/17/2002
(1 out of 5 stars)

"If you are a first time buyer of German groups on the cutting edge of electronic/groove/dance from the past 4 years, then this is a good start. This double-CD set carries tunes from the Top Ten of German Electronica. That said...that's really all there is.On the other hand, if you are an avid fan and collector of the beforementioned, and are looking for a great DJ mix (as was done on Paris Lounge 1&2) then AVOID buying this CD. Is is very likely that you already have these songs from the original album or other compilations.I don't profess to be a DJ expert, but even if I pretended, I wouldn't release this work to the public. There is is NO attempt by the DJ to contrast or congruently link different tracks and what is even worse, most of the tracks are "original" released singles. I would have appreciated this album had the DJ either played mixed versions of these originals, or had mixed them his/herself...dabbling and inserting some drum samples and cockatoo yelps...anything!"
LET'S SEE IF THIS REVIEW GETS POSTED!!!

"It seems that everytime I attempt to review the illustrious "Paris Lounge" series, it never gets posted...so, I will attempt to do a review of the equally impressive "Berlin Lounge" series with hopes that it does get posted, especially since no one haS reviewed it. I picked "Berlin Lounge" up at the local Borders record store after much hesitation, and to my surprise I really liked it (as if I had any doubts with the Wagram Records label). It's obvious from the selection of tracks here that Berlin is very big on Nu-Jazz, Reggae and 2-step, even though for some strange reason, I always thought that musically Germany was on a whole nother level. The tracks on "Berlin Lounge" are quite impressive, especially tracks from virtual unknowns Fauna Flash, Knowtoryus, Fellmann & Louise, Marschmellows, Aromabar, Boozoo Bazou and Hacienda. There are also well-knowns here such as Ian Pooley, Jazzanova, De-Phazz, Jaffa, Truby Trio, Alphaweazen, Athome Project and Terra Nova, who contribute outstanding, and in some cases, overused tracks to "Berlin Lounge"--if I see "Bohemian Sunset" and "Sneakin'" on another compilation CD...! This is a terrific concept from the folks at Wagram--bringing listeners music from the major cities of the world in a lounge format....if you didn't know already, in addition to "Berlin and Paris Lounge", Wagram put together a "London Lounge" and a "NY Lounge"; both to which I have yet to get. It's only a matter of time before there's a "Hong Kong Lounge", or a "Moscow Lounge"...NAAAAH!!!"
I love this CD!

"I looked for this CD for quite a while after hearing it played in a Saks store on a Bang Olafsson stereo and making the sales clerk find out what was playing, and I was so glad to finally find it. I especially like the Berlin by Night disc. Everyone who has heard it at my home wants it too..."
