Where's Vanity???

"This is overall a great soundtrack, preceding an even better soundtrack to 'Beverly Hills Cop 2'..but just as with the second soundtrack, this one is missing a song. Remember the strip club scene..the girl [dancing] to 'Nasty Girl' by Vanity. Vanity is the beautiful, soulful voice leading the thumping dance jams of 80s' movies like 'Beverly Hills Cop', 'Action Jackson', 'Coming to America' and more. That song failed to reach this CD. Just as one song from 'Cop 2' aslo did: 'Hold On' by Anita Hill..which was actually poorly re-done for the CD by Corey Hart. Gimme Anita Hill, her version heard only in the movie is much better. This soundtrack does definately deserve a listen though, with hard-to-find great songs like 'Stir It Up' by Patti LaBelle..which originally kept me in the movie theatre until the credits were done..and of course Axel F composed and conducted by award-winning German music composer Harold Faltermeyer. If you're gonna buy either one of these//you should get 1 and 2 together...two great CDs that will be sitting in the honorable front seat of your car for years to come."

"I can't believe that's Danny Elfman! But still that's just one of the great songs on this soundtrack. You have Patti LaBelle stiring it up, and with "New Attitude". We have Harold Faltermeyer with his famous "Axel F", the best instrumental track I've ever heard. I also like Glen Frey's "The Heat Is On", I just love the lyrics to that song. I can't think of too many movies that have better soundtracks than this"
The Heat, or is that Electropop, is On

"If the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack epitomized the apex of disco music, Beverly Hills Cop filled that same function in British-style electropop and synth-funk. The genre became the window-frame for acts of all kind, soul and rock artists gone solo. The question therefore is, does it succeed in being engaging despite having the same kind of sound? The answer is yes.Patti LaBelle's solo viability continued with two songs. "New Attitude" embodies the energetic British New Wave electropop a la Flock of Seagulls, complete with synths, more than the soul she was known for during her LaBelle days. "Stir It Up" is another song in that mode, with that cool bass synth keyboard, and energy that rivals Phil Collins' rendition of "You Can't Hurry Love."Shalamar's "Don't Get Stopped In Beverly Hills" makes this the second big soundtrack collaboration, the other being Footloose's "Dancing In The Sheets," also released in 1984."Emergency" by Rockie Robbins is a standout with amplified drums and pulsing synths. The Top Ten "Neutron Dance," later to turn up on the Pointer Sisters' breakthrough Break Out album, is more electropop than soul, and is representative of how in the 1980's, selected hits helped sell this soundtrack and boost popularity for the movie. I wonder how many Eagles fans wanted to bop Glenn Frey after hearing "The Heat Is On." More pop than the country-rock his bandmates did, that's for sure. I couldn't get enough of that energetic number, with that catchy chorus and that accompanying wailing sax. This was produced by Keith Forsey of Billy Idol fame and Harold Faltermeyer, who has a key number here."Axel F," the instrumental by Harold Faltermeyer, with its keyboards creating the theme for main character Axel Foley, was another big hit from the album. The electropop seems to take over the identity of each artist or band, but not enough to present the sound of the time, a time capsule of 1984."
Beverly Hills Cop-Great Movie, Good Soundtrack

"My brother and I saw Beverly Hills Cop at the movies when I was 7 and my brother was 10. The next summer for my 8th birthday I got the Soundtrack at a party for me at Chuck E. Cheese's! Man was I happy. Now, 20 years later I'm buying the Soudtrack on CD. It's a pretty good Soundtrack. The Patti LaBelle songs are good, and I'm a big Glenn Frey fan, although "The Heat Is On" is no Eagles. The only downfall is the omission of the song "Nasty Girl" by Prince protege Vanity 6. Oh well, it's still a pretty good soundtrack. For me the Soundtrack brings back memories of my youth. A very impressionable movie for a 7 year old, and the music made an impression too."
