CD Reviews

All KIller, No Filler

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Bear Family has produced one of the best collections of R&B in the 'Blowing The Fuse' series. From the postwar period to 1960, these are hard to fault.

However, there are some warnings. Most artists get one track per year unless they were hit making monsters. So some important tracks are omitted. Some artists are omitted due to difficulties in getting the required licence. Bear is disingenuous when it states that they are compensated by those present. The sound is very good & there are sufficient hard to find tracks to make it worthwhile looking at this series. However most collectors will have most of the tracks. All I can suggest is read the track listings & decide if you want enough to justify the relatively high cost. I am happy with the entire set & for somebody wanting to get a start in postwar R&B, this could be for you. Oh yes, did I mention the excellent liner booklet? It's as good as it gets."
