This comprehensive 2 CD set is a collection of the N.Y. cult label for the period of 1982-1986. Includes important and collectable 12-inch singles by Afrika Bambaataa's side project Time Zone, Grandmixer D.ST, Fab Five Freddy, Futura 2000 w/The Clash, Shango, Manu Dibango & Deadline. Other musicians and singers include Jaco Pastorius, Jimi Hendrix, Herbie Hancock, Robert Musso (Material), Jalaluddin M. Nuriddin (Last Poets), Bernie Worrell, Wunderwerke, Bill Laswell, Bernard Fowler and Nicky Skopelitis. Collision - Cause Of Chapter 3. 2006.

Excellent old school compilation

"If you like the old school rap music put out by Sugar Hill Records or Enjoy Records you should really give this a try. Do note that the beats on this comp are old school, not the hip hop style that dominated after L.L. dropped "My Radio."

There are several things that set this 2 disc set apart from other old school collections:

1) I have the compilations listed below (and several others) and most if not all of the songs on this comp are unique to this two disc set

2) this set focuses more on extended mixes and more on dance-floor friendly songs than some other comps

3) you get some early examples of cross cultural diversity on this disc with some early raps in French & Spanish and two tracks by Manu Dibango

4) you get an 8 minute plus proto-rap that was recorded live in the studio with Jimi Hendrix in 1969. This song (Doriella Du Fontaine)is part of rap history and is not necessarily easy to pick up.
