Controversial and wonderful

"Every cut on this cd will get you thinking while it fills your ears with great music. You will get the best of the modern pibroch players and the best of the revisionists. The revisionists are Allan MacDonald, Glenuig, and Barnaby Brown, Cambridge. Whatever you think of their stylistic differences from the norm you have to give them credit for approaching the music with fresh and exciting new (or rediscovered) ideas. On the other hand you have Roddy MacLeod and Willie McCallum offering up two tunes in the modern, competition style. Roddy's tune is the well known classic, "too long in this condition." He gives a splendid performance on a beautiful pipe. The biggest surprise for me was Willie McCallum's "lament for hugh," because it is absolutely beautiful, amazing and a tune I have never heard played. It also surprised me because I bought this cd expecting to be swept away by the revisionist pipers, but it was Willie's classic performance that left me weak in the knees. If you love pibroch (and that is how you spell it in this context)you will love this cd."
