The film has been compared with Scorsese's "GoodFellas," and it deserves the comparison. The movie takes place in slums constructed by Rio to isolate the poor people from the city center. CD Reviews
Avoid the REMIX version

"I saw the movie and was going to get the original soundtrack, which sounded great on the DVD. Other reviews indicated that the remix version was much superior, so I bought that version. What a mistake! The remix uses a bunch of dime-store, tinny-sounding effects that just ruin the sound in my opinion. In disgust, I gave up listening after hearing about 6 cuts. Unless you're into a heavily disco-ized sound and special effects, I'd avoid the remix version like the plague."
Fantastic breed of Brazilian-Electro-Funk. A Must!

"I wasn't sure how they could top the City of God soundtrack, which I think is the best soundtrack released in 2003;well-they did it, with this amazing party-starter that had me asking for "more more MORE!" This must goes right along with the Brazilian Trance craze and copaiera dance phenomenon currently taking over the dancing world. I got hooked on this Cd instantly. And my desire for more was met with yet another Volume of City of God Remixed. Check out Vol. 2 as well."

"This "remix" soundtrack to the groundbreaking City Of God movie and original soundtrack sets the bar for all that come after it! It is an incredible reworkign for the already classic songs from City Of God, remixed by the hottest Brazillian DJs in electronic music today!A perfect compliment to the original soundtrack and don't forget to check out City Of God Remixed Volume 2!"

"I love this movie and I'm so glad it's nominated for 4 academy awards! I got the soundtrack and loved it, but these remixes are soo cool that since I've got this album of remixes I listen to it much more than orignal sountrack. Especially good are the first and last tracks by Drum Magick, but the album is so solid and consistent that everything is great! For fans of both the film and Brazillian Electronica, this album is a must have!"
