CD Reviews

A Little Bit Country,...A Little Bit Rock and Roll
L. Shirley | fountain valley, ca United States | 06/04/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The film "The Cowboy Way", for those that have not seen it, is about two real cowboys(Woody Harrelson, Kiefer Sutherland) from New Mexico, who set out for the Big Apple in search of their good friend. They meet up with some very unsavory characters in New York, and use their rodeo skills to help them out of impending danger. It's a fun flick that gives us a good taste of both the cowboy life, and life in the big city as well.

The soundtrack is a great mix of both country and rock from the film, performed by some legendary artists. There are 11 tracks in all that follow the adventures of our heroes, as they take on New York. The songs and artists include the rousing "Good Guys Don't Always Wear White"(Bon Jovi), "The Cowboy Way"(Travis Tritt), "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys"(Gibson/Miller band), "Blue Danube Blues"(Cracker), "No One To Run With"(The Allman Brothers Band), some great guitar work and a fabulous rendition of "On Broadway"(Jeff Beck & Paul Rodgers), "Days Gone By"(James House), "Candy Says"(Blind Melon), the beautiful ballad, "Too Far Gone"(Emmylou Harris), "Sonny Rides Again"(George Thorogood), and the fun "Free Your Mind"(En Vouge). The CD runs about 40 minutes total. It comes with an insert, with the tracks listed and some pictures from the film.

I was not super impressed with the quality of this CD. It sounded a little tinny at times, and I wished it was a little longer, but the selection was great, and the performances excellent.

If you loved the film, you'll enjoy this soundtrack. Also recommnended for those who are just a little country and a little rock and roll.

Enjoy...Laurie
