"Man, I used to bump this e're day taking the BART from S.F. to Oakland going to the Boxing Gym...You talk about some music that will get you hyphy!!! This album represents what the Bay was about...independant, game infested, and that H.U.S.T.L.E. The is album came out around the time when the Bay was lacing the hip hop game with so much knowledge. At this time the Bay Area was home to more independent hip hop record labels than any where else in the WORLD. Now just marinate on that for a minute, young brothas owning labels and believe me, even though they was not on MTV or BET, these cats was making major money. It is finally getting out how the Bay has influenced hip hop by showing cats you can make money and not have to pimp your career away to a major label. True Fact. Real knowledge. I don't know what it is about being raised in the Bay, but cats just don't believe in waiting for somebody to give you nothing, you got to go out there and make it happen...That is always been the thing. Like right now, cats be selling they records out the trunk, all over the country, The Bay was doing that in the early 80's. Short Dogg is the godfather of the game on that one...when you really look at it, that was a wise decision. Even now you hear about cats struggling to get the radio and the dj's to play your stuff. Short was like my stuff is cool, people will want to hear it, once they want to hear, they going to get at the dj's to play my stuff in the club, once my stuff is hittin' in the club...my music will spread. This Boss Ballin album was in that genre that came out of the Bay that was ahead of its time. Compilations...there were no hiphop compilations until this era. They Bay was churning so many GOOD compilations out, the industry started to copy it. You see, alot of the independent labels came out of these compilations. Great album. I know I been rambling but I just wanted to drop some knowledge on this Bay Area hiphop thing. All this stuff ya'll see on videos now been copied by these cats, all that slang and poppin colla's, we been doing that fa longgggggggg time...yadda meann!!!"
