SUPERB CLASSICS, BUT WHAT'S WITH THE EDITS?

"When this was initially released as a 2-LP set back in 1987, it was stupendous for the simple fact that a major record company actually DARED to reissue honest-to-goodness disco songs in their full-length original versions. A nice touch was the booklet which included an essay from Brian Chin, former Dance editor for Billboard Magazine, who clearly loves the music and writes about it with passion. In his liner notes, Brian referred to the whole disco genre as being "much maligned" and often dismissed. So, given all that, what does Columbia do when it's time to press this acclaimed collection onto CD? THEY SHORTEN SOME OF THE TRACKS so the whole package fits neatly onto one disc. "Keep On Dancin'" is reduced to a radio version and "Touch Me In The Morning" has almost 2 minutes chopped off of it. And that's just for starters! Extremely disappointing pressing. If you can find the vinyl, buy it and cherish it for it rates a full FIVE STARS. This CD release rates three stars. Don't get me wrong...I'm glad these songs are on CD. I just don't see why they had to be butchered."
A Great Compilation

"This disc, originally a two record set, contains seldom found, once popular dance tracks: Marlena Shaw's "Touch Me In The Morning," Jackie Moore's incredible "This Time Baby," Deniece Williams' "I've Got The Next Dance," Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire." All cuts are in the extended versions. The collection is rounded out by a pair of great mid-tempo rareties: Sarah Dash's "Sinner Man" and Sharon Ridley's "Changes." A good source for nearly forgotten disco tunes."
A Disco lover's "must have" CD

"One of the first "must have" disco comp CD's produced. This one originally came out in the late 80s/early 90's and has a nice cross section of hard-to-find, extended (!) versions of disco classics.
Disco is one of those music genres where the extended or 12" versions are the only true way to experience these classic songs. Many Disco compilation CDs miss this point by a mile - but this one "gets it".
One of the bright spots of this CD is the inclusion of Chicago's "StreetPlayer". While Chicago is not normally considered a disco group, this song ventures into disco territory. It was also the inspiration for The Buckethead's "The Bomb" dancehit from 1995.
The excellent "Touch Me In The Morning" and "Sinner Man" are included here for those diva loving disco twirlers. And the full glorious version of Vertigo/Relight My Fire is included as well.
The only complaints here are the abbreviated version of Gary's Gang "Keep On Dancin'". Why was this song cut so short??"
