CD Reviews

So close, so close...

(3 out of 5 stars)

"(Note: Track 7 on Disc One is "From Here To Eternity" by Giorgio Moroder. And yes, it's edited to just 5:52.)

This new series is very good and very welcome. The sound quality on all tracks is excellent. Packaging is nice and the booklets have some good information. The tracks are mercifully "DJ friendly," in other words, not mixed. And a thank you to Amazon for listing the all-important song lengths!

NOW, the nit-picking: track selection. Disc One is filled with true Euro-Disco from the disco era. Many have been available on CD before, while there are a few I've never seen, and I'm always thrilled to get my hands on those rarities. However, the cuts on Disc Two are entirely from the 80's. Seems a waste of a disc. There are so many missing tracks from the actual disco era that could have been included here but aren't. That's how they came so close, but disappointingly just missed more stars. (How about the 13:00 minute extended version of "Chase" by Giorgio Moroder instead of a cruelly edited version of the long available "From Here To Eternity"?) That's just one wish, and I'm sure fans can think of more than enough to fill a disc. A separate collection of 80's songs would have made a great 5th set in this series."
