It was over thirty years ago that a young man made a decision that would have an impact on the City of Memphis forever. Martin Luther King, Jr. had been slain in our city a few years prior and racial tension was at an all time high. Larry Finch's decision to sign an athletic scholarship to then Memphis State University eased those tensions more than any other person or event in this City. His signing was the beginning of bringing blacks and whites together for a common goal. We all know of his success as a player, coach, father and husband. Larry has given his entire life to the City of Memphis. In recent years, Larry has experienced challenges with his health. The time has come for all of Memphis to show our Coach that we love him, appreciate him, and will never forget what he means to this City. Let's make an assist to Coach Finch as he continues to make great Memphis and the Memphis area. strides in the biggest game of all...the game of life.
