"Fabulous Fifties, Decade of Hits is Volume 6 in this CD series of great tunes from the 1950s. I really like these numbers and the sound quality is awesome! The artwork is also very good in the CDs in this series.
Sonny James performs on the first track with his hit entitled "Young Love." Sonny and his backup men make this number shine; and the guitars sound so good on "Young Love." Sonny sings this with a lot of sensitivity and I really enjoy listening to this number whenever I take out a `50s CD to enjoy. 'The Third Man' Theme is performed by Guy Lombardo and His Orchestra; Guy conducts this and makes this sound beautiful. "'The Third Man' Theme also has the flavor of a `30s or `40s tune that still holds its own very well in the `50s. This is great music for slow dancing with your sweetheart!
Art and Dotty Todd sing "Chanson D'Amour" so smooth you'd swear it's like listening to silk! Art and Dotty perform this with panache and the music enhances the natural beauty of this rather charming and even somewhat innocent love ballad. Les Baxter also performs "The Poor People Of Paris" to perfection; I loved this song when Edith Piaf sang it and it still sounds fresh and engaging here! "The Poor People Of Paris is also great "mood music." Talk about music perfect for a `50s bachelor's den!
Johnny Mathis scores big with his classic "It's Not For Me To Say." "It's Not For Me To Say" is one of Johnny's greatest hits--and it's stunning when he sings it. Johnny's excellent ability to convey every subtle romantic nuance of the lyrics really makes his performance stand out; this song is clearly a major highlight of this album. Listen also for The McGuire Sisters doing their "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight;" they harmonize to perfection and beyond! The McGuire Sisters never did anything half-baked; and you can tell it's true when you hear them coo this song, "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight." "I'm Walking Behind You" features Eddie Fisher at his very best; the brass enhances this tune and Eddie never misses a beat! What a crooner Eddie was!
Elvis sings his timeless "Love Me Tender" with an awesome guitar accompaniment; and the CD ends nicely with Leroy Anderson's "Blue Tango." This number rounds out the CD very well.
Overall, lovers of great `50s music will enjoy this CD immensely. These truly ARE great, timeless hits by a variety of artists that just by itself is impressive. I highly recommend this album for people who like oldies music as well.
