Album Description

'Funky Funky Detroit' brings together rare 1965-1967 productions from labels owned by Motor City stalwart Johnnie Mae Matthews, as well as an unreleased tune by the legendary Dramatics, recorded during their brief tenure at Andrew Harris' Sport. This collection proves that Johnnie Mae Matthews and her stable of artists, along with Black Nasty and The Dramatics, were true pioneers of Motor City funk and soul!

HEY MAN, THIS IS PRETTY DECENT

"i love "rare groove" cds like this. this is like a breath of fresh air to me when i get tired of the radio............which is often. the first 13 joints on here have a nice, groovin' ebb and flow to it. the last four songs are instrumentals of previous songs on the cd. i wish that they would've put some more cuts on here to finish out the album. however, for the most part, it's an enjoyable listen."
