CD Reviews

This cd is just plain fun, fun, fun

"Happy Hardcore is (or was?) a speeded-up, revved-up, fast and furious subgenre of electronic music that features extremely high bpm, chipmunk-like vocals, and a happy, giddy, party-type feel. It flourished mainly in Germany, the Netherlands, and in a slightly different form, Great Britain. People generally either love it or hate it. I don't listen to it as much as I did a few years ago, but there still is a warm space in my heart and an occasional space in my cd player for this particular cd, "Happy Rave '95." I found it used in a "remainder bin," and I loved the cute, orange kitty-kat cover, so I bought it.I was not disappointed! This is a skillfully mixed sequence of catchy, upbeat, FUN tunes that has a party-type feel. It features tunes by Westbam, Interactive, Scooter, Marusha, Mark Oh, Dune, and other onetime stars of the European "rave" circuit. The ultra-high-speed, "happy" feel of the music suggests a certain campiness, a tongue-in-cheek childlike playfulness that those steeped in grunge rock, for example, will undoubtedly not "get." An example is Marusha's earnestly ironic rendition of Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow." It's so silly that it's endearing. Perhaps improbably, this cd has for several years now remained one of my favorites. It's unique, fun, energetic, and I always smile when it's being played."

"If i were to own only two disks my entire life, they would include a Bach compilation, and happy rave '95. I want a copy so bad I can close my eyes and see the cover! It must be re-released if it has been discontinued!"
This is the sickest happycore I've heard yet !

"I'm dying to get my hands on it. If you have a copy of it consider yourself damn LUCKY! A friend of mine just got the "Who the X is Alice?" record to spin and I'm stoked but I still miss my Hardcore Vibes =("
