"I first heard the duduk on Peter Gabriel's soundtrack "The Last Temptation of Christ," and fell instantly in love with it. But it was Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" that alerted me to the name of Gasparyan. Exploration of this artist's materials has been immensely rewarding. In "Heavenly Duduk," the mournful strain of this clarinet-like instrument seems to spring from the tragic history that befell the country (of Armenia); and, even in its lighter moments, there is deep sorrow. The vocals - sounding remarkably like the duduk itself - also express the inescapable sadness. The duduk is an amazingly eloquent instrument, despite its limited register. If you wish to be transported to another realm, sample the artistry of this gifted musician."
