Synopsis
Product Description Sheb Wooley knew not what he had wrought when he did Purple People Eater - it not only overwhelmed his country music career, but created a new subgenre of rock & roll: horror rock. There are a few familiar names here, including Wooley's alias Ben Colder. The central concept of the CD is that these are all rock & roll songs hooked around some horror (or horror-related) theme. - Bruce Eder, All Music Guide Similar CDs

CD ReviewsBefore the Monster Mash there were great monster songs Michael Osborn | Seattle, WA USA | 10/01/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Since the beginning days of recording music over a hundred years ago, halloween records have been made, and there have been some great ones. In many ways `The Monster Mash' was the start of the rock 'n' roll monster song only because it was the first national smash hit but it wasn't the first one. There were five years of rock 'n' roll monster songs preceeding it and this CD presents a cross-section of some of the most interesting. It has 31 original tracks of monster songs that are pure 50's rock n roll. The cover is a colorful painting of the monster from "Curse of the Demon" 1957 (originally used for a Frankie Stein & His Orchestra LP on Power Records 1964) and it comes with a booklet with a center fold poster of the movie, "Werewolf in a Girl's Dormatory" and a few photos of some of the artists. This is a generous collection and it is a companion to the MONSTER BOP CD (also on the BUFFALO BOP label from Germany) which has 30 more vintage monster rock n roll recordings. Unbelievably great. ... is an O.K. price for what you get, 70 minutes of monster songs most of which were recorded before the Monster Mash. The only regret you'll have if you buy this CD is that you didn't get the companion CD, MONSTER BOP, so get them both! ... Track Listing: BO DIDDLE IN THE JUNGLE - Tommy King... THE BIRDS - The Motivations... DRY BONES TWIST - The Drivers... AT THE HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN - Big Bee Kornegay... SHE'S MY WITCH - Kip Tyler... NIGHTMARE - Billy Sills... FOO MAN CHOO - The Revels... THE ZOO - Mickey Lee Lane... THE MUMMY'S BRACELET - Lee Ross... MONSTER HOLIDAY - Lou Chaney... THE MONSTER - Evans Carroll... TEENAGE CREATURE - Lord Luther... SHUDDERS AND SCREAMS - Ben Colder... SCREAMIN BALL - The Duponts... THE MORTAL MONSTER MAN - The Savoys... MIDNIGHT STROLL - The Revells... IGOR'S PARTY - Tonys Monstrosities... BLACK WIDOW SPIDER WOMAN - Jack Hammer... MAD WITCH - Dave Gardner... NIGHTMARES - John Sowell... VAMPIRA - Bobby Bare... VOODOO WOMAN - Smiley Smith... GRAVEYARD ROCK - Tarantula Ghoul & The Gravediggers... WEREWOLF - The Frantics... WOMBIE ZOMBIE - Billy Taylor... BIG CHIEF BUFFALO NICKLE - Macey Ross... JUNGLE HOP - Kip Taylor... MOON MADNESS - Pasquale & The Lunar Tiks... WEREWOLF - Gary Warren... CREATURE FROM OUTER SPACE - Sonny Day... AMAZON - Phil Carter" Vintage Halloween Noah Grenwood | Falmouth, MA USA | 09/25/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Fantastic collection of light-hearted Rock 'N' Roll songs for any party during October. These songs are catchy as well as hard to come by. Horror Hop is the companion to Monster Bop, another cd packed with a bunch of songs from the 1950s and 60s, perfect for Halloween parties. The songs were probably taken from actual records rather than the original source, but it still sounds pretty decent. Besides, where else are you going to find all these songs? All the songs are great. They even got Lon Chaney Jr. singing a song about monsters stealing Christmas presents from Santa. However they could have left out the song "The Zoo". Hearing a song about seeing rhinos, hippos and monkeys at the zoo doesn't exactly conjure up images of ghosts and graveyards in ones mind. But who cares? There are 30 other songs to play during your next Halloween party." Buy this thing, seriously. Damon Bonnell | South Bend, IN USA | 11/10/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you love halloween, collect halloween cd's love novelty songs, or nostalgia, buy this. no argument. you dont own any of this music on cd. if you have one or two, which is highly unlikely, this is still the most unique collection of old classic music from a past era.. THat's it. get it. You may never have heard of any of these people, or maybe just a few, but if you've ever liked Monster Mash by bobby boris pickett. Get it. If youknow all about this stuff, why read about it, buy it, seriously, it's that good."
