Mixed performances, but worth it for Creole George Guesnon!

"If you like early blues and jazz, the CDs from Document can't be beat. Where else can you find some of these obscure recordings. And for the most part, the liner notes are really good although they sometimes miss a few instruments. After hearing Creole George, I would have to say this man is a giant of New Orleans singers. Criminally under-recorded... if there had more recordings, he would be a lot more well-known. Anyway, his enunciation is very clear and his phrasing superb. The lyrics are quite interesting and way above the typical blues phrases. If he really does play the banjo on this, it's very hard to hear. The CD also contains some wonderful female jive-blues and rhythm singing by the Bandana Girls and others.
I have to give props to the Document label and encourage them to keep up the good work."
