The LIFT EVERY VOICE CD project features historic performance and studio recordings from an array of legendary and contemporary African-American artists, all of whom have contributed toward the rich legacy in the history of music and the world. This is the next in the CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS branded series of releases based on a new partnership between Sony Masterworks and Carnegie Hall. These special releases will encompass special concert events and the great performers whose art contributes to the Carnegie Hall legacy.
A cross section of musical genres, the LIFT EVERY VOICE CD project spans gospel to swing, classical to contemporary, spirituals to jazz, and features a selection of special recordings from great artists such as Marian Anderson, Kathleen Battle, Harry Belafonte, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Mahalia Jackson, Wynton Marsalis, Jessye Norman, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Bill Withers, Luther Vandross and others, all whose contributions have made them an historic part of the African-American legacy in music.
The LIFT EVERY VOICE CD serves as an audio companion to the Carnegie Hall Festival production, HONOR! A Celebration of the African-American Cultural Legacy, taking place the entire month of March 2009 at Carnegie Hall and other New York City based destinations.
