Wonderful trance

"i too enjoy malagasy music and ive been searching for more marovany / valiha music after seeing an excellent documentary about Rakotozafy. this cd is incredible. it hasnt been watered down or tailored for western ears. this is TRANCE and healing music. this is what the malagasy use this particular music for during their tromba ceremonies. so yes the music is repetitive and driving. its wonderful. dont listen to this music with western ears, prejudices and expectations. listen to it for what it is and immerse yourself in its beauty and joy. its nice to hear real authentic field recordings of this music and not arrangements of traditional music for western instruments. my only complaint about this cd is that the excerpts are too short, i would love to hear really long recordings of these pieces so as to effectively portray the trance / healing aspect of this music. kudos to lyrichord for their Music On Earth series."
