CD Reviews

Did someone raid my CD collection???

"Spanish kitsche...how I love thee. Not to say that these artists are nothing more than kitsche, but the songs included on this camp-tastic compilation are certainly their sillier moments.

EMI Latin has FINALLY done the long-overdue task of compiling euro-disco tracks in the Spanish language. All of these songs (minus Paulina Rubio's "Mio") were recorded in the 80's, a time when electronic vibes were overtaking all forms of music, and Spanish vocalists embraced it, even if only briefly. This compilation, with a title that just screams in good taste and humour (assuming this is a house wife's soundtrack to her daily life), is really a great trip down this long and entertaining hall of fame to a time of omptimism and exploration.

My only problem with this compilation is the inclusion of PAULINA RUBIO!. I can see where they saw her fit for this, after all, she is campy (at best). However, most of these tracks are 80's kitsche and "Mio" here does not fit the style, as it was recorded in 1992 and has an obviously different arrangement than these electro-pop hits. EMI must have wanted a selling point, and I guess they saw it in Paulina. She is still a popular act.

For years now, I have been a great fan of this classic "euro-disco" sound, and of those great Spanish vocalists who had their period in this style. From the lovely and incredibly talented Massiel, Daniela Romo and Paloma San Basilio to the one-hit wonders of Oscar Athie, Bravo and Postdata, I had to wonder if the person who was in charge of compiling these tracks raided my CD collection! I swear i have all these artists! Either way. a resurrection of this nature was long overdue...and I am so glad that EMI Latin has a brain in this sense.

CD's like this don't come every day, please run and buy this now while it's still in print! You shan't regret this on those campy days where u just want to dance and sing!"
