Synopsis

Album Details
A Double Disc Set Essence of a Brilliantly Vibrant Era in Music (1978-82), with 45 Brilliant Songs that Appeared as 45's to the Delight of Fans. Surfing the Wave of Post-punk, These Bands Combined the Energy and Anger with which Punk Had Reinvigorated a Stagnant Music Scene but Added a Little More Glamour, Politics and Tunefulness to Proceedings. So, who Makes the "New Waves" Cut? Well, for Starters There's the Edgy, Spiky Sounds of Elvis Costello's 'pump it Up', the Jam's 'the Eton Rifles', Ian Dury's 'wake Up and Make Love with Me', the Lambrettas' 'poison Ivy', Stiff Little Fingers' 'alternative Ulster', the Jags' 'back of My Hand' and the Vapors' Anthem 'turning Japanese'.

New Classics AND Great Sound
KC | Northern CA | 01/26/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Unlike the STIFF RECORDS BOXSET where the tracks are amusing time pieces but don't really hold up to actual or repeated listenings anymore - this collection - while somewhat low-key named are the true modern day classics that everyone should own. These are punky, power pop, alt or just plain pop but they all sound great ... both musically and more important - fidelity wise. A lot of the "new wave" collections while featuring great tracks don't always offer the best fidelity - these sound sharp and clear like it's the late 1980's and you just turned on the radio (when most people actually listened to radio AND they would actually play new tracks - yea, hard to believe but true :-)"
