"Can't believe no one has commented this fantastic live cd yet. It must be out of print - I had to get it thru the web. I first got it on tape in the late Eighties and enjoyed it so much. It's not usual to have so many and diverse talented players in the same album. With people like Peter Haycock, Steve Hunter, Andy Powell, Randy California, Leslie West, Steve Howe and Alvin Lee, you can never go wrong.
Their different styles of guitar playing are in display through the whole set. The only complaint I have is that part of the original double album has been left out (For example, Never in my life) in the cd release. At least Leslie West's song would have fitted in perfectly since the cd running time is only 71 minutes.
Favorite songs - all but if I had to pick some would be The Idler, Lucienne, Hey Joe, Love Me Two Times, The King Will Come, Theme For An Imaginary Western, No Limit, Ain't Nothin' Shakin' and All Along The Watchtower. Virtually all, you see.
Extra mention for Stewart Copeland, whose drumming is crucial to the music here (and elsewhere, too) and the bassist and keyboardist, whose names I don't know though I would like to.
If you don't have this cd, you are missing out on some incredible stuff. The best and most varied guitar live album ever.
5/5."
Superb Rock and Roll!

"A lot of people do not like concert cds that have various performers, but here it works excellent. This is not one to pass by. You get people like Pete Haycock, the late Randy California (of Spirit), Steve Howe, Alvin Lee, Leslie West, Robbie Krieger of Doors fame, Steve Hunter (who played on Lou Reed's Rock and Roll Animal), and a few whose names I can't remember right at the moment (Wishbone Ash) guitarists.
Every song is great. There is no weak moment on this collection. And like the title says...it was the Night of the Guitar and plenty of it in fine form. Buy this while you can! I understand it is out of print, though I'm not sure of this."
It's worth every penny!

"I've been a drummer for 45 years and have been in many bands. I know the individual works of each one of these musicians and believe that some of their better work is on this album. The songs are obviously written to showcase their unique and individual talents so if you're looking for each one to sound like they did in the bands they are famous for being a part of then you probably won't find this album as satisfying. If, however, you are looking for pure guitar quality then sit back and enjoy a beautiful piece of work. The live recording is well done for 1989. It's not perfect for today but still a good recording for a live performance."
Excellent!!!

"I've owned this CD since around the time it was first released on CD.
I agree with the other reviewers. I usually don't care for live concerts with a bunch of guitarists all trying to get their 2 cents in, but this one really works!! I like how one player does a tune, then introduces and plays with the next, etc etc. I wish they would release it on DVD. I have seen several of the songs on this CD, plus other songs from the set on YOU TUBE, so I know it's out there."
