Synopsis

Product Description
PERSIAN CATS is a fictional story based on real life struggles in Iran that follows young singer Negar and her musician boyfriend Ashkan (Take It Easy Hospital), who attempt to form a rock band after being released from prison. (Ashkan actually spent 21 days in prison after being a part of an underground illegal concert.) Forbidden by the authorities to play in Iran, and dreaming of performing in Europe, they plan their escape. The necessary paperwork proves impossible to come by legitimately, so they team up with Nader, a fast-talking music promoter, who may be able to provide the connections they need.

With passports and visas being made to order, the trio trawl the Tehran underworld, listening to local rockers, metal-heads, rappers, singer-songwriters, musicians of every sort-all of whom will go to any length to perform their music. But with deadlines looming and authorities on their heels, Negar and Ashkan s hopes of completing their mission may soon be shattered. The film s story details the real hardships that musicians of Iran face every day.

CD Reviews

Excellent collection of traditional and modern Persian music

"I recently caught a viewing of the film No One Knows About Persian Cats at my local Landmark Theater. The film was really good and I really appreciated the fact that the 'actors' in the film are professional musicians. Although the story was fictional, it would be impossible to question the authenticity of the film. The best part of the film was the vignettes of the artists performing with their bands. I enjoyed the music so much I bought the soundtrack. Despite the fact that their country is ruled under an iron thumb an oppressive religious regime, the artists featured on the album finds ways to make music and for people to hear their art. No matter how many times I have listened to the soundtrack, I am always amazed by the diversity of the music. I am not a rap fan but I totally dug the song "Ekhtelaf" by Hichkas. I loved Rana Fahran's "Mast-e Esgh (Drunk with Love)" song. It has a nice jazzy feel to the sound. One would not have guessed that the songs by Take It Easy Hospital and Ashk Koosha were by Iranians with their brand of indie pop/rock. I especially enjoyed Ash Koosha's "Chasing the Sun", an infectious little pop/rock track. No One Knows About Persian Cats is one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a long time, it is definitely worth checking out in my personal opinion."
Great soundtrack!

"This is a great CD! I've been playing it all the time... such a great mix of music, different genres and sounds. And each song is better than the next.

Even better when you realize how much these musicians go through to just be able to play their music. Love it! The movie was fantastic as well!"
