CD Reviews

Laid back, chilled out, sexy beats
Tiffany B Brown | Stankonia | 08/05/2005

"You know how it is when you go to a lounge with dark, mood lights and a sexy vibe? You know that music in the background that makes you feel alternately sultry, laid back, cool and turned-on?

That's this CD set. Perfect for lounges, bars, basement parties and make-out sessions."
COOL GROOVES, TRANCE VIBES, WEST MEETS MIDDLE & FURTHER EAST
Joseph W. Szilagy | Mississauga, Canada | 12/12/2009

"In Canada, (where the dollar is lower), this set is currently just $13.99 at Amazon.ca!?! I would have paid that for one disc! Track three on disc one alone is worth a good chunk of that!

Actually, when I first listened to samples on Amazon.com, I hadn't noticed more than one disc! What a nice surprise to discover there were three! And, at that price!

Anyway, being a musician, I don't buy music that some people might enjoy having solely in the "background", nor something to "make love to". I don't think you necessarily need music for that, if everything (mind and body) is working properly, you don't need various other sources to "get things going". It's just that using music for that purpose relegates it to a sort of "cheese factor". However, having said that, if I wanted music in the background to go with "that" kind of mood, I'd probably have a bunch of older "Sade" playing.

That said, this is simply mostly good, semi-Middle Eastern and Asian flavored groove and electronica music with a nice trance (minus mindless disco beat) factor, here and there. Mind you, there are a few pieces that have nothing to do with the "East", and not that much that has to do with Punjab except for some cool Bhangra grooves, tabla, and that haunting sort of vibe. A few odd lame pieces shouldn't even be on here, but the "really" good Eastern and Middle East-sounding music more than makes up for the weak tracks, and it's great to play guitar solos along with, too! Overall, a great box set! Trouble is, now I want to look up other music by the artists I really like on this set, which equates to spending more money!"
Great grooves

"This CD has a great compilation of Eastern grooves with some harder beats - great for yoga, dinner music, or just taking it easy."
