This will transport you back a few decades...can't believe it's been that long. Pretty good collection of several good ones. I would have included Donna Summer's 'On the Radio' instead of 'I Feel Love' which I barely remember. And not even ONE by the brothers Gibb! Tsk! Tsk! They must be saving them for another album.

An Excellent Disco Primer

"If you're looking for your first disco album, this one's a good bet. The selections range from the obvious and great ("YMCA", "Celebration", "I Will Survive", "That's the Way (I Like It)") to the not-so-obvious and great ("I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance", "Got to Give It Up", "Cuba", "If I Can't Have You"). Unfortunately, you get a few obvious songs I'm not so crazy about, like "Love Hangover" (which sounds rather stilted). There are even a few what-the-HECK? numbers, like "Flashback" (a lame song from the 80's) and "The Best Disco in Town" (which hopefully doesn't play this song). The remix of "I Feel Love" isn't bad but the original would've sounded more in place. Don't let these few problem items dissuade you, though - you've got a SKIP TRACK button on your CD player for a reason."

"Pure Disco has twenty-one great tracks on it that anyone from the days of disco will remember fondly! This is the music people heard in the clubs as they danced their cares away on many a Saturday night. The music on this CD is excellent; and the quality of the sound is also very good. The artwork is great!
The Village People start things off big with their smash disco hit entitled "Y.M.C.A." "Y.M.C.A." has an awesome beat and it just might even make your kids want to dance to it! "Y.M.C.A." is classic disco and a great choice to start off this album. Abba's "Dancing Queen" is yet another great number from the golden days of disco; it may have a somewhat slower beat than other songs do but it still is great dancing music. "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer is also classic disco, Donna Summer made many contributions to the disco archives and we're all better off for her doing that! Listen also for Gloria Gaynor doing her awesome hit, "I Will Survive." "I Will Survive" had many, many people out there on the dance floor and this is sure to bring back great memories!
Barry White's "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" is one of the most joyful, triumphant songs I've ever heard; and "Knock On Wood" by Ami Stewart sure does have that disco beat! I love it! The percussion and musical special effects mark the beat for "Knock On Wood" and Ami Stewart sings this like a champ! There's also "That's The Way (I Like It)" by K.C. & The Sunshine Band; K.C. & The Sunshine Band made some VERY good music and quite a few people were really surprised when "K.C." turned out to be a white guy with long hair down his back! I always like hearing K.C. & The Sunshine Band sing and play their awesome tunes.
"Oops Upside Your Head (I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance)" by The Gap Band is disco; but if you listen carefully you just hear the very early beat of hip-hop music coming around the corner. Interesting! The beat is very good and "Oops Upside Your Head (I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance)" is good disco dance music even today. "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross had many people up and out onto a steamy dance floor--this is a great song and Diana Ross does this with all her heart and soul; she really delves into this song to turn out a terrific performance! The song has an unforgettable melody with a beat that makes you want to jump up and start dancing nearly wherever you are.
"Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. scored a huge hit in the disco clubs; and the mix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" is still perfect for dancing the night away! The CD ends strong with John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John doing "The Grease Megamix." "The Grease Megamix" ends things on a very upbeat note (no pun intended) and that's fantastic.
Pure Disco is great disco music; and it makes an excellent starter CD for people who want a strong single CD sampler of this type of music. Diehard fans may well already have most of these numbers in their disco box set collections already; but if they don't have these songs they should get this album.

"This CD and volumes 2 & 3 are the best ever for dance music. I ordered Pure Disco 1 and it was a big hit at my party, so I ordered 2 & 3. These CD's will keep you dancing all night long. Well worth the money and your friends will love dancing to all the great songs! It's a sure hit for anyone that loves to dance!"
What a great series!

"Let me first go on record saying that my favorite artists of all time (at this point) are Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. In that vein, you wouldn't really expect a guy with a taste for that sort of music to dig disco. But I really do. Disco music defines "good times." If you've ever been to any sort of party in your life (hosted by a professional DJ, that is), the odds are you've heard a number of the songs on this compilation. And they're all great. Some are better than others, of course, but each song is catchy and the bass lines are funky. Not to mention cheesy. If you're looking for a cool collection of disco music and don't want to splurge the cash for expensive box sets or individual artists' albums, the "Pure Disco" series is a great investment. Throw in the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack and you've got enough great disco songs to blister your feet up.Why only four stars instead of five? That's easy. Barry White's "the First, the Last, My Everything" isn't the REAL version. Polygram omitted the spoken introduction and the phrasing is just a bit different from the original version. Must be some sort of radio edit.Despite this, great compilation. Two other recommendations: "the Bee Gee's Greatest Hits: the Record" and "Barry White: the Ultimate Collection.""

"I got this CD for the Donna Summer edit since I already have most of these tracks on the Disco Nights series. It's a great collection with most Disco styles represented ... although I never thought of Abba's Dancing Queen as disco. There's disco funk: Celebration, That's The Way ..., Oops Upside ...; Minimalist electrodisco: Funky Town, I Feel Love; Latinodisco: Cuba; Wailing Diva Disco: Knock On Wood, the anthemic I Will survive and Don't Leave Me This Way; Popdisco: YMCA, I Need Your Lovin and Rock Disco: Hot Stuff and I Love The Nightlife. Excellent selection of late 70s tracks but I agree with another reviewer that the Grease tracks are out of place here - Grease never was disco."
