Album DescriptionIn 1968 Ted Jarrett started the Ref-O-Ree Label, in Nashville, TN, which was very much focused on the hot Southern Soul music scene of the area. In the same year three of Nashville's R&B legends, Roscoe Shelton, Gene Alison and Larry Birdsong were all without recording contracts and made their last recordings with Ref-O-Ree. Several Ref-O-Ree releases have become Northern Soul classics in the UK and have been featured on many compilation CDs. The Ref-O-Ree Story - Southern Soul compiles some of these fine sides, many of which fetch absolutely insane collectors prices today, on one digitally remastered, digipak CD, with informative liner notation about the label by Fred James. An absolute must for fans of late 60s / early 70s American soul music.
