Synopsis

Product Description
Rare studio recordings from the archives of noted L.A. record producer and the father of the folk-rock sound, Jim Dickson (Byrds, Lord Buckley, Flying Burrito Bros., Country Gazette, MFQ). Highlights include: the first, never before released recordings of the 60s peace anthem, "Get Together" by it's composer, singer Dino Valenti (later of Quick Silver Messenger Service); and rarest of all Byrds recordings: Hamilton Camp & The Byrds with a newly discovered 1965 studio recording of Dylan's "The Times They Are A Changing" plus a rare instrumental recording by David Crosby (The Byrds, CSNY) and jazz musicians Bud Shank and Joe Pass, "Charisma" along with never before released bluegrass-rock recordings of the original Dillards. The album notes are by hippie icon Wavy Gravy!

CD Reviews

Interesting beginnings of "Folk Rock"
Thomas Buchanan | California | 12/12/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"These tracks include some of the first applications of rock to folk songs. These include David Crosby and Dino Valenti There are early Bluegrass versions of Dylan songs by The Hillman as well as "Bluegrass Rock" by the Dillards Also included are four early Byrd tracks which include an early version of their No. 1 Hit Mr. Tambourine Man. A rare gem by Hamilton Camp backed by Byrds McGuinn, Hillman & Clarke closes the album. There are other interesting tracks for those that enjoy this genre."
