Synopsis

Amazon.com
Nearly 70 minutes of Eastern-by-ambient soundscape, Slow Music for Yoga is culled from the Hearts of Space catalogue and includes unreleased material from both German pop composer Thomas Barquee and the exceptional devotional duo Rasa. From the outset, these pieces take the tack of mindful meandering, as they follow a comfortable, comforting pace. Warm and rhythmic, the sounds slow the pulse of the listener and call for focus on languid movement and openhearted clarity. Designed to enhance and accompany yoga practice, Slow Music for Yoga is a handpicked collection of dissonant Eastern melody married to vocals and synthesizers in a reverential approach. Particularly enjoyable as a morning soundtrack, Slow Music also befits other types of body work, such as massage, breathing, visualizing exercises, and gentle stretching. --Paige La Grone

CD Reviews

Ambiance is sardonic and dark
Quiet Traveller | 09/12/2003
(1 out of 5 stars)

"I was surprised by the the music on this CD, the title "Slow Music for Yoga" gave me the impression that this would be gentle and relaxing music. The two first tracks are dark and dismal. The ambiance, if you like the sort of feeling is oppressive and foreboding. This was not the sort of setting I wished to experience in a yoga practice.

Empowering Sounds for a Deeper Meditation Experience

"While most yoga music contains popular New Age melodies and soft, light-hearted, almost fabricated attempts, this is a real winner. I am an instructor of Qi Gong at Furman University and use this in my more advanced classes. The most powerful aspect, perhaps, lies in the depth of the music and in its resonating power. I highly recommend you try it out as well for yourself."
Sensual Yoga music

"This compilation is listed as being beneficial for meditation and yoga, but what strikes me most powerfully about this CD is something more and beyond, which is its air of spiritual sensuality. It took me several listenings to connect with this aspect of the recordings - the long sustained notes and harmonies worked on my senses as well as the other aspects it was intended for. One reader found the first title, "Black Marble and Sweet Fire" dark and oppressive, and I too found it somewhat somber at first, but now it may be my favorite track. Its slow sensual brooding is quite wonderful. The cover art and colors reinforce this aspect of the compilation also, making me think its intention embraced this facet of the music. I love it."
