Stupendous Soul Shots Compilation Deserves Another Printing.

"....this is Vol. 2 of a collection of oldies that Rhino Records--in Santa Monica, Olympic Blvd with a pomperdoured leather jacket wearing rhino as a mascot--came out with in the late 80s-early 90s. It was the among the first of the hundreds of thousands of soul compilations out nowadays. My opinion is that the first of a certain kind of product is usually the best. In it's totality it was a 11 or 12 Volume collection that the volume conceivers (usually Don Waller of "The Motown Story" fame, Gary Stewart and Richard Foos) titled with an appropriate title like, Vol. 4 is "Tell Mama"-Screamin' Soul Sisters and Vol. 5 is "La-La-Means I Love You"-Ballads. Each tune on each CD is remastered by the
great Bill Inglot who: #1 must never sleep, and #2 probably has the best job in the world besides the photographer(s) for Victoria's Secret...Anyway, this Volume has been one of my long favorites. (No, I don't have them all, but wish I would have purchased them when they were all out.) Not only does it has R and Bee classics
"Love Makes A Woman" by Barbara Acklin and "Hey There Lonely Girl" by Eddie Holman, but it has rarities that you love..."Hypnotised" by the late great Linda Jones and the original versions of "Mr. Dream Merchant" by Jerry Iceman Butler and Sedaka's "Working On A Groovy Thing" by Patti Drew.But, trust me. If you find any of the CDs in the compilation, get it. There are cuts by Billy Stewart, KoKo Taylor and Willie Dixon, Shirley Ellis, King Curtis, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, Albert King, BB King and hundreds more that are gonna hit the "OOOOh! Man!" center in your brain and as you yell "that was the cut!" you're either gonna grab your honey for an impromptu dance or grab a makeshift microphone and sing like you're in front of an adoring audience....Don't you just love it?"
