"It's well known that there's a long standing love affair between gay men and musical theatre. Now, with Stage 1: How I Love You, for the first time, gay men get to hear their favorite Broadway love songs sung BY men TO men. The songs (mostly sung by female characters in the original shows) are sung without changing pronouns. There's a little shiver you get when you hear a male voice singing "He's a fool, and don't I know it..." "We Kiss In A Shadow" was, for a long time, practically the gay national anthem, describing so clearly as it did how many of us felt about our love lives. Now this album celebrates that love for us, allowing us "to kiss in the sunlight and say to the sky 'Behold and believe what you see, behold how my lover loves me.'"The juxtaposition of the hopeful "If I Loved You" with the somewhat more cynical "Loving You" is the perfect ending to this delightful album. The arrangements are simple and spare, keeping the very talented singers always in the forefront.Rejoice, gay theatre lovers, for your love songs are here."

"From the opening bars of "Someone to Watch Over Me" this CD will grab your attention and not let go. The emotion of each song comes through crystal clear; it almost seems as if these songs were meant to be sung by men to men. Of particular note is the rendition of "Tell Me on a Sunday", although the final note leaves a bit to be desired. Listen and enjoy."
