CD Reviews

Say It Ain't So

""Say It Ain't So" is by Roland Gift, ex-Fine Young Cannibals. As far as I know it was never released, and only appears over the end credits of this film. I've tried to find it as a single or on an album, without success.Roland's record company, London Records, do not have it on their catalogue, and I suspect that it isn't available anywhere. If anyone knows different, please let me know. The only solution I can think of is to get the DVD and make an audio copy. It's an awesome song, such a shame it wasn't included on the soundtrack.Don't let this distract you from getting this soundtrack - it is still one of my favourites, 4 years after I first bought it."
Perfect Fit For the Movie & Makes Great Mood Music

"The CD for Stealing Beauty is a classic, a must-have for every '90's music fan, fans of sexy, trip-hop music, and fans of Billie Holiday and other classic love/blues artists. I've heard it played in several coffeehouses in Seattle, where it fit perfectly, and I often hear tracks from it on the radio. The songs, though different, and from different eras, go well together when played straight through. They track, in a way, the progression of the film as well, from the opening sequence shots of Liv Tyler with Hoover's "2 Wicky" to Sam Philips' "I Need Love" at the end, when she's finally found her love. In between lies the story told by the film, with party scenes and the great fire-lit sex scene recalled well with tracks such as Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and Mazzy Star's hypnotic "Rhymes of an Hour." My two favorite tracks are the up and hopping "Rocket Boy" by Liz Phair, and Billie Holiday's classic "I'll Be Seeing You," and I also really like the last track, the bittersweet "I Need Love." A song that's missing on the soundtrack is "Olympia" by Hole, which Tyler belts out (lip-synching) half-way through the film. As a Seattleite who grew up listening to Nirvana, I wish that track had been included. I'd say, "buy this CD!" I've had it for years, and it still often gets airtime in my house. It gets you in a flirty, arty mood, just like the movie."
Great cd, but wheres the end title track by roland gift?

"like most people who saw this movie i thought it was well done. The music fit perfectly with the beautiful sceneary and deep emotions of the movie. It reminded me in many ways of the movie rushmore and its soundtrack. Without the music neither film would have been what they were. But one thing i cannot figure out to save my life is why the closing theme song (Say it Ain't So, by Roland gift) is not included in the soundtrack. That song is not only a great song but it perfectly summed up the movie and made a somewhat abrupt end seem almost perfect. Another thing, i cannot find anything from Roland gift anywhere, if anyone has any clues or knowledge about him please email me"
