While Disney has successfully cornered the market for younger teens with its Disney Channel musicals, Step Up shows the company (through its Buena Vista subsidiary) addressing the older high-school set with equal flair. Di... more »rected and choreographed by Anne Fletcher (choreographer of the excellent Bring It On), the musical depicts a clash between kids representing "street" and more formal dance, though its soundtrack is resolutely turned toward the R&B/hip-hop/dancehall axis. The CD starts off with three fab collaborations: "'Bout It" by Yung Joc and 3LW, Ciara and Chamillionaire?s fantastically elastic "Get Up" (which may be even better than Ciara?s smash hit "1, 2"), and Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole's "(When You Gonna) Give It Up to Me." But the three most dance-inducing tracks are solo ones: Kelis is at her funkiest on "80's Joint," and it's practically impossible to stay still during Drew Sidora's bouncy "Til the Dawn" (including an Earth, Wind & Fire sample) and Jamie Scott's Prince-esque "Made." Don't miss, tucked toward the end, Deep Inside's "Lovely" and Gina René's "U Must Be," two wickedly catchy slow songs. --Elisabeth Vincentelli« less

"I love this soundtrack! I wish they had more of the violin players on it as well but its still good. If anyone is interested...the violinists are an actual group called Nuttin But Stringz and they should be coming out with an album of their own on Oct. 3rd. Check out their website if you like them!!!!"
Missing something

"I thought the songs on this soundtrack were great, but what I really wanted to hear was all of the music that they danced to in rehearsals and in the end- the remixed stuff with the violins. Does anyone know if they're planning on releasing that music on CD? other than that, the soundtrack was cool."
PRETTY GOOD

"I love love love this soundtrack.. the only thing that disappointed me when I got is was that the senior showcase song at the end of the movie wasn't on the cd! I think that the mix ("Bout It" instrumental apparently?) should be on there because besides Channing Tatum, was the reason why I bought the cd thinking it would be on there. Otherwise, I love all the songs they're great to just chill too."
Great soundtrack :->

"What a tight soundtrack. I've heard a lot about this movie (but haven't seen it yet as Australia is last in the world for everything), and so I decided to check out the soundtrack which is really, really good. I don't think there is a song on here I don't like.
While I like all the songs, the three that stand out the most to me are (When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me - with the same Sean Paul sound we know but with the addition of Keyshia Coles stunning voice. Then there is For The Love (a cool, funky ballad) and U Must Be by Gina Rene. That's a soul/jazzy song with a good feel to it.
Let me just say that if the movie is as hot as this soundtrack, I cannot wait. There are some major songs here and I have no doubt this will become a big hit. With artists like Mario, Young Joc, Keyshia Cole and Anthony Hamilton on it, you can't go wrong. This is great."
