Nothing "illbient" here; just bouncy urban grooves and sultry horns, punctuated with oscillating synth warbles and the odd 303 drum machine blurp. Music for "jazzmopolitans," A Taste of Pork features the sexy, airbrushed "bossa-hop" of Fila Brazillia, the wee-hours sonic seduction of Heights of Abraham, the space-lounge sax lyricism of R Earth, and the comfy couch funk of the Solid Doctor. Tracks like these encourage Muzak comparisons among harsher critics, but they inhabit an interesting zone--the crossroads of trip-hop, ambient, Latin jazz, and easy listening.
