Album DescriptionTexas Hoedown Revisited is an expanded reissue of County Records' classic 1965 LP of Texas fiddle music featuring Benny Thomasson, Vernon Solomon, and Bartow Riley. Common among these performers is a command of tunes traditionally associated with the rural southwest United States. However, each of them possesses a unique stylistic approach to the music. Bartow Riley's forceful bowing technique gives his music a drive and punch that is singular among Texas fiddlers. Vernon Solomon's lighter bowing & more articulate fingering convey his detailed approach to melody. Benny Thomasson's improvisations and sense of timing give old tunes a new life.
Charlie Faurot, renowned for his field recordings of musicians such as Tommy Jarrell, Kyle Creed, and Fred Cockerham, recorded Thomasson, Solomon & Riley in the late '60s & early '70s and has now produced this outstanding collection. All selections previously issued on the 1965 LP are included here along with 10 previously unissued tracks. Booklet for this collection contains several rare photographs of the fiddlers as well as updated notes by Faurot.
Carefully remastered and beautifully presented, this is an indispensable collection fans of Texas fiddle tunes and old-time music.
