Synopsis

Album Description
Underdog is a bi-weekly Sunday deep house "experience" founded and hosted by Jay Hannan at the Notting Hill Arts Club in West London. Jay is well known, not only in his native London but worldwide as co-founder along with Ben Watt of the now legendary Lazy Dog club. A real departure from the 'cold, expansive' super clubs and their assembly line of compilation albums, the album is composed of tracks that have now become classics at the club over the last year. Throughout the mix there are unifying elements running through the core creating Jay's own unique "genre" and allowing people to instantly recognize any Underdog mix and also relate this CD to the afore mentioned Lazy Dog CD's. The mix starts with Mercury Award nominated artist Terri Walker then flows effortlessly into funky deep house before blending into more Latin influenced beats, African house, even flamenco before finishing with luscious deep vocal tracks including an exclusive only for this album mix of Kaskade's "It's You It's Me" - a song which epitomizes this CD - it really is for you and me!

CD Reviews

Excellent
07/16/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was extremely dissapointed to see Lazy Dog come to an end but I am pleased with both Ben Watt and Jay Hannan's follow up work. Jay and Ben have taken different paths with their music, with Ben moving into more subtle, ambient deep house and Jay pushing dance oriented deep tracks that have strong (though not contrived or overwhelming)jazz, African, and Latin influences. The Underdog mix is listenable and danceable from start to finish with stand out tracks spanning from songs 5-8. An excellent disc for the deep house lover."
Party Music

"I am a child trapped in an adult body! So even though I am a 50 something, this is perfect party music (aka cocktail party)for your not so crochety friends. My 25-32 year old adult kids like it too, so it must have a great and wide appeal. I highly recommend it to young and old!"

"Picked this one up, cause I found it very cheap. Thought what the hell, it's only a couple of dollars. Now not only in my regular rotation, but one of the best. Buy it NOW!"
